Detailed Sheet for kidney transplantation at Artemis in India

For kidney transplantation in India, a recipient is required to have a blood group compatible kidney donor from the family (donor has to be between 18 to 65 yrs) as required by the human transplant act of our country. The recipient & donor will have to undergo detailed tests, which could take 7-15 days (depending on what is found on investigations), prior to transplantation.
Transplantation can be done only after the authorization committee approves the donor. The respective embassy in Delhi will certify all the proofs of certificates and documents of relationship between the donor and the recipient.
 
The patient would be required to stay befo re the transplant in the guest house for investigations.

Please note that patient has to come on Medical Visa.
Patient has to be seen for suitability for transplant and must bring along a blood group compatible donor from his family for kidney transplantation. The above package is inclusive of the charges for OPD work up of donor and the recipient.
 
INCLUSIONS:
 
1. Total 10 days stay for recipient & 5 days for donor.
2. Pre-operative Evaluation for Donor and Recipient (Excluding HLA/ DNA Typing.
3. Post-operative lab charges for the Donor &Recipient (Including Histopathology) for 10 days.
4. Post-operative Radiology service for Donor & Recipient.
5. Donor & Recipient OT/Ward consumables, Machine and OT Charges.
6. One Pre-Operative dialysis / one post dialysis if needed.
7. Transfusion services:four units of blood & three units of FFP.
8. Surgeon’s fee for donor & Recipient.
9. Anaesthesia Service for donor & Recipient.
10. Graft biopsy if required within 9 days.
11. Diabetology review & consultation in diabetic patients.
12. Re- exploration of recipient / donor within package days.

EXCLUSIONS

1. Stay of more than 10 days will be charges extra for recipient and 5 days for donor
2. Medication like gancyclovir, IVIg, blockers, TPN, plasma expanders, ATG, IL2 receptors including need for TPN.
3. Corrective surgery if any, after transplant for complications of biopsy after 9 days.
4. Any Invasive cardiac imaging or intervention for heart disease that is required pre and post operatively.
5. HLA typing & cross match.
6. Difference of room rent will be charges additionally if the donor stays in higher category of ward.

THE ACTUAL TREATMENT COST WILL BE DECIDED BY THE TREATING
DOCTOR/HOSPITAL AFTER THE PROPER EXAMINATION OF PATIENT AND
MEDICAL RECORDS/REPORTS.

The patient will need pre transplant dialysis which will cost as per the actuals.Pre- Transplant
Dialysis for Stabilization .Dialysis is handled by Dr. Manju Aggarwal- Director – Nephrology at
Artemis.
 
The cost each sitting would be around USD 140 which would include:
1. 1 sitting of dialysis (fresh dialyzer every time) with a snack for the patient.
2. Injection Eprex-4000 iu for each sitting
Exclusion: Access like I-J catheter if required will be charged.
 
We have three slots for dialysis in the morning, afternoon and evening. The timings are
as below. Slots are given according to availability, taking patient’s convenience into
account as far as possible.
1. 7:30am – 11:30 am
2. 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm
3. 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm
 
Pre-requisites for kidney transplant:
• The donor should preferably be a first degree family member with the same blood group
or O blood group. We take other relatives (2nd and 3rd degrees) also but we need to prove
relationship with appropriate documentation and DNA typing.
• Between the age group of 18 to 60
• Should be medically fit
• Should be free from chronic ailments like Severe Hypertension, Diabetes, HIV, Hbs Ag
etc
• Attendant should be near relative of donor.
 
Formalities to be done in India:
Step1: To obtain No Objection Certificate from Embassy in Delhi. The documents required to be
taken to Nigerian embassy are:
• Letter from hospital: This would be on the letter head stating that the patient is under
treatment of Artemis hospital.
• Old records and medical reports (if any)
• Brief case summary or history by referring physician (if referred)
• Affidavit from government: It is a certificate from local government authority that the
donor and recipient are related to each other. It is mandatory for all Foreign Patients. On
clearance from the Authorization Committee, we would admit the patient in the hospital.
• Photographs- Donor, Recipient (10 each)
• Income proof - Salary statement or Bank statement of both donor and recipient
• Consent from the next of kin of the donor on stamp paper (Photograph of both donor and
next of kin of the donor duly pasted on the stamp paper).If the donor is a cousin, next of
kin has to be physically present during Transplant Authorization Committee
• Proof of Relation – Birth certificate, marriage certificate etc
 
Step 2: Patient with donor and relative is taken to SDM office to get affidavit of donor attested
by him. The documents required to be taken to SDM office are:
• Letter from hospital: This would be on the letter head stating that the patient is under
treatment of Artemis hospital.
• No Objection Certificate from Embassy
• Affidavit donor
• Affidavit patient
• Affidavit relative
Step 3: The affidavits of patient and relative are attested by notary. It gets completed in a day or
two.
Step 4: Once the affidavits are attested, we will take these papers to Authorization Committee (it
is present in the hospital only) for approval. In the meanwhile doctors will be conducting some
necessary tests for donor as well as the patient. The time taken in the whole process is around 2
weeks.
Details of total stay in India
The patient would be required to stay before the transplant in the guest house for investigations.
1 day before the surgery and 9 days after operation in the hospital and 30 days in guest house for
follow up.
